Sunday, Sept. 11, the 2016-17 NFL season kicked-off with a rocky start when ESPN’s fantasy football app crashed. Some of the users of the app complained on Twitter, including a U.S. Senator. ESPN responded that they were diligently working to resolve the issue.
According to CNBC, last year the Fantasy Sports Trade Association reported 57 million active users. Some of the hardcore users made six-figures betting on fantasy football. ESPN set a record with unique users of 94.4 million.
Sunday’s Games:
FOX at 1 p.m. ET
- Green Bay at Jacksonville – Green Bay’s defense was able to hold their 27-23 win. Blake Bortles fought hard against the Packers and the Jaguars came close as Aaron Rodgers was able to find Jordy Nelson for their second touchdown.
- Oakland at New Orleans – The Raiders made a comeback over the Saints during the second two-point conversion. The Raiders took the win with under a minute left in the game for a score of 35-34.
- Chicago at Houston – The Texans beat the Bears 23-14.
- Minnesota at Tennessee – Kyle Rudolph gained 65 yards and four catches for the win over the Titans, 25-16. Shaun Hill took the quarterback position. First string quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater tore his ACL and will be out for the season. The Viking’s chose to take the safe approach with close throws underhand. It is not expected that their passing game will change after Sam Bradford replaces Hill. Bradford does not have a strong arm, although, this is why Hill is currently in the quarterback position.
- Tampa Bay at Atlanta – The Buccaneers took the Falcons, 31-24. Charles Sims scored a touchdown and 32 yards for Tampa Bay. His passing game was on point and he was able to score before halftime, leading the Buccaneers 17-3. Sims continued to show his skills by breaking through tackles and getting the ball into the end zone.
CBS at 1 p.m. ET
- Buffalo at Baltimore – Sammy Watkins caught four passes for Buffalo and a total of 43 yards. Tyrod Taylor was not a consistent quarterback, yet remains the top target in Buffalo. Raven’s defense could not be matched and succeeded in stifling Taylor’s skills in every way. Buffalo Bills lost, 13-7.
- San Diego at Kansas City – Melvin Gordon scored his first two career touchdowns against the Chiefs. More is expected from Gordon if Keenan Allen has to sit out the season, he has shown that he could be an asset as a receiver, as well. However, this was not enough to beat Kansas City. The final score was 33-27.
- Cleveland at Philadelphia – Eagles first-year quarterback Carson Wentz, won against first time quarterback for the Browns, Robert Griffin III. Wentz gained a touchdown on his first drive to Jordan Matthews. The score was 29-10.
- Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets – The Bengals took the Giants by one point.
CBS at 4:05 p.m. Miami at Seattle
FOX at 4:25 p.m. ET
- N.Y. Giants at Dallas
- Detroit at Indianapolis
NBC at 8:30 p.m. New England at Arizona – Tom Brady will not be playing as this is game one of his four- game suspension for his part in Deflategate. Jimmy Garoppolo will take his place as quarterback.
Reported NFL Injuries:
Jeremy Maclin of the Chiefs was evaluated for a concussion. After receiving a 22-yard reception he was taken down by Jahleel Addae. The diagnoses had not determined before the game went into overtime.
Keenan Allen may have torn his ACL in his game against the Chiefs. He is scheduled for an MRI Monday. If he will be out for the season his replacement will likely be found in wideout Travis Benjamin, tight end Antonio Gates, or running back Danny Woodhead.
