Shazam’ trailer showcases fun side of superheroes
San Diego Comic-Con revealed several trailers for new movies from the superhero genre. Among them were DC’s
upcoming films, “Aquaman” and “Shazam!” The latter of these films put the spotlight on DC’s attempt at a more lighthearted type of film based on the comic books, which is exactly what “Shazam” is. There has already been a new movie behind the scenes look at the character’s costume on social media, thanks to various reveals. Now there is a much better look at what the film will involve.

In the new movie trailer, viewers are introduced to a young boy named Billy Batson who has been bouncing around between foster homes, trying to find his way. Billy is placed in with a new family where he befriends a disabled foster child named Freddy. After a run-in with bullies, Billy takes off for the subway to escape. However, he soon receives an otherworldly visitor. The man entrusts him with ancient powers giving him superhuman abilities. By yelling “Shazam!” he is transformed from a young boy into a muscular adult superhero capable of extraordinary feats.

“Shazam!” stars actor Zachary Levi as the adult superhero and Asher Angel as his younger counterpart, Billy. The plot will focus on Billy’s discovery of his new superpowers, and then an attempt to stop the evil plans of the villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong). Jack Dylan Grazer (“It”) and Djimon Hounsou (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) will also be a part of the upcoming film’s cast.

The new movie trailer shows that DC will be giving its best shot at a much more lighthearted superhero flick. Some fans have called it “BIG” meets “Superman” based on the content. It is likely to involve a humorous look at a child’s struggle to fit in as a kid, and then to adapt to being a grown-up superhero with great responsibilities.

As the film gets closer to release, there are sure to be some new movie behind the scenes interviews. This will help moviegoers unfamiliar with the subject matter can get a better idea of what it involves. Otherwise, it will involve thumbing through the classic comics by DC.

“Shazam!” will be among the new movies released in 2019. It soars into theaters on April 5, 2019.
