The Maze Runner: Death Cure may not land in theaters until February 9 of next year, but 20th Century Fox has already started to roll out publicity for one of the hot new movies of 2018. For fans of the popular YA series, this finale to the story is one of the hottest new movies coming up, and the new movie trailer revealed at the MTV Movie Awards is packed with the sort of excitement they’ve come to expect.
But perhaps more exciting than the official trailer was the new movie behind the scenes exclusive offered to MTV. Dylan O’Brien – the film’s lead and a winner of three prior MTV Movie Awards for his involvement in the franchise – offered a tour of the film’s set. This new movie behind the scenes look provided a tantalizing hint of what’s to come for those who haven’t read the books. In a case of bringing things full circle, O’Brien’s hero Thomas and his loyal group of friends will be breaking in to a labyrinth. High action is expected to combine with heist-inspired direction to keep the franchise fresh.
That O’Brien was so present during the tour and new movie trailer is a clear signal of the team’s confidence moving forward. While shooting a chase sequence for the film, O’Brien was injured and suffered a concussion along with facial fractures. Fortunately, the actor seems to be back at 100%, and despite a nearly year-long delay in production, it’s scheduled to hit as one of the most high-adrenaline new movies for winter and a critical tentpole release for 20th Century Fox. If the film is a success, Fox could potentially draw from existing books to turn out at least two prequel films, but for now fans are just excited to see the dystopian series go out with a bang.
