Emmy Awards

Netflix is no longer the new kid on the block, and it is clear that their success at the past three Emmy Awards, 2013 to 2015, has proven, that the media giant has awoken. Not only are they wide awake, but Netflix could achieve an unexpected takeover at the 2016 Emmy Awards.

It is clear that facts cannot be argued, and statistics clearly show the amount of nominations and victories for Netflix original programs at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the United States during the previous three years have been astounding. Netflix original programming walked away with 31 nominations in 2014, but they did not stop there, they snatched up seven Emmy Awards. The documentary “The Square,” the comedy series “Orange Is the New Black,”  the drama series “House of Cards,” won 2014 Emmy Awards.

For years, cable giants like HBO and Showtime have taken over the Emmy Awards seasons. However, with online streaming making its way into the competition, Netflix is repeatedly showing the world that they are true competition. As an increasing contender with a go-ahead in most of the key categories, the fast rising streaming sensation is showing the traditional U.S. TV networks and cable providers that this year’s 2016 Emmy Awards might experience an unexpected takeover by Netflix.

The media company all began as an internet archive for movies and television series. The online streaming shakeup of Netflix is undisputable. They report over 65 million subscribers and are continuing to grow. Netflix has a streaming network that has stretched all over the world in a short period of time.

They are arriving at the 2016 Emmy Awards with 54 nominations, which is a 59 percent rise over the 34 they had in 2015. Nevertheless, even with its continual climb in Emmy affirmations, Netflix has so far, not been able to walk away from the yearly observance of television entertainment with a major heave of statues.

On the contrary, a victory is a victory. This is especially true since Netflix follows a quest to do a massive take-off into the world of Hollywood’s long-established networks and studios. It is no secret that Netflix is doing it big by bringing in a stated $5 billion in 2016, on its ever-increasing list of different films and series. At the start of the year, they set a goal to roll out around 600 hours of original programming during 2016.

Netflix is still in the process of doing this, producing fresh new content going into this year’s Emmy Awards. They kicked the year off with original series like the science fiction drama, “Stranger Things” starring Winona Rider, and the period piece drama, “The Get Down” with Jimmy Smits. Then there are the “bring them back classics” like the reboot of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” premiering in November and “Fuller House” which made its debut in February.

It is obvious Netflix will not be stepping into the Emmy Awards this year as rookies but as fierce contenders. With some Emmy Awards already won in the past, there may be some surprises this season.

However, it is all about the nominations and “House of Cards” apparently holds the cards with this year’s Emmy Awards with 13 nominations and a possible win for best series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they believe “House of Cards” actress Robin Wright will be the only one worth representing Netflix but with a night that will be full of surprising upsets, one can only wait and see. With the streaming service receiving nods in lower-profile award categories, Netflix might just go out with a bang at this year’s Emmy Awards.
