This film is inspired by true events. It is about the survival and extraordinary strength of the human spirit. Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a legendary explorer. He and his hunting team are on an expedition of uncharted wilderness in the U.S. When Glass is mauled by a bear, his hunting party leaves him presuming he is dead.
However, he must survive. He suffers tremendous grief and feelings of betrayal by his best friend, John Fitzgerald, played by Tom Hardy. Using sheer will and the tremendous love of his family enables him to endure. Glass fights to stay alive through a vicious winter in order to live and be redeemed.
