Famous Oscar and Emmy award winning writer Aaron Sorkin (Steve Jobs, Moneyball, The Social Network) is back with an all new true to life thriller drama called “Molly’s Game”. This time Sorkin is at the helm in the director’s chair, a first for this Hollywood veteran. Sorkin has made a name for himself on the silver screen with adaptations of real life stories like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg biographical interpretations, “Steve Jobs” and “The Social Network”, as well as the story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane in “Moneyball”. This time around Sorkin will take on adapting Molly Bloom’s memoirs Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker. With Sorkin being nominated for screenwriting for the last two out of three of his theatrical releases, his latest release has high hopes to be another critically acclaimed masterpiece.
“Molly’s Game” follows the true life tale of Molly Bloom played by Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Zero Dark Thirty, The Help) an Olympic-class skier who runs an exclusive high-stakes poker game. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. After being raided by the FBI Molly’s only ally is her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey played by Idris Elba (The Dark Tower, Thor: Ragnarok, Pacific Rim) who learns that there is much more to Molly than the tabloids lead us to believe.
Aside from Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba, “Molly’s Game” has a star studded cast. “Molly’s Game” stars Kevin Costner (Draft Day, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Man of Steel), Michael Cera (The LEGO Batman Movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Superbad), and Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd, Epic, Thor: The Dark World). With these additions to the strong leads of Chastain and Elba, it should give Molly’s Game the legs needed to be a critical and commercial success.
